Our perspective
A culturally rich society improves social cohesion, the more so in a city or borough where ethnic diversity is higher.
It is our belief that music is of great importance to everyone’s basic development. Music is an aid to building a rich and healthy personality in a world full of stimuli. Learning to listen to and playing music is restful and brings harmony and structure into one’s life. Playing music together boosts self confidence, teaches cooperation and stimulates integration.
Our goal
The Leerorkest foundation wants to offer children from multi-ethnic communities the chance to discover and develop their musical talents ina low-threshold but structured environment. They learn to play a musical instrument and become part of a beginners orchestra. Moreover, they learn to deal with responsibilities and discover how such experiences build their character.
Our ambition
It is our ambition to improve and enlarge this new concept in musical education, and to make it a standard part of primary school education. Furthermore, we want to share our knowledge and experience with others by developing a curriculum and starting a knowledge centre so the Leerorkest is not limited to Amsterdam but can be heard all over the Netherlands.
